About the author

IMG_0253My name is Maurice Isrel, but I have since birth been called Bebe. There are several stories going around on how my Dad originally got the nickname Bebe – I am a Junior. But the story I most prefer has to do with bebe being Spanish for baby, and my grandfather being Sephardic (generally Spanish speaking) Jew. So with no one to contradict me, that is the story I choose  :-)

I am and have been a programmer for IBM for 33+ years, the husband of my beautiful “Jewel” for 38 years, and the proud father of Nathan and Natalie. But my passion has always been Jesus and the gospel. I was converted by members of the non-institutional churches of Christ when I was 20, and “studied myself” into being a part-time preacher for that wing of the churches of Christ. I have taught many a Bible class, preached at some point in 17 different congregations, and preached full time for a few years with a small group in Raleigh, NC, my hometown for the last 32 years.

But as with Paul, some of you are going to think my “great learning is driving me mad.” Through the help of some friends, I discovered what a true student of scripture should have discovered long ago; we members of the non-institutional churches of Christ may not have quite the grip on truth we think we have. That discovery has spawned a book – out for first editing now, an excerpt from which you can find on this site. It is that discovery, and that book, that spawns this web site.

So as Julie and I enjoy the first years of my “semi-retirement” – I am only working part-time for the near future – I feel God is calling me to spread some of this knowledge through a different venue – the internet.  I know, I know; most of you reading this don’t think God works in that way anymore. What can I say? Read chapter 17 of my book.

That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it.
